CarbonNetCarbonNet came to Atilus as many new clients do. Battered and upset. Unfortunately, CarbonNet’s former web development company left them with a nearly complete, but completely useless website. The website, which was supposed to feature a custom calculator and purchasing tool, was not complete, and after months of what was described as a “customer service nightmare,” they were hesitant ANY web development firm was legitimate and could truly meet their needs.

Fortunately, we took a chance on each other and the experience has been amazing!

Many of us at Atilus are alumni or current students of Florida Gulf Coast University and because of FGCU’s strong focus on the environment through various required courses we are all too aware of current environment problems both locally and nationally.

With that in mind, CarbonNet commissioned Atilus to finalize their website and build out a unique Carbon Calculator. The Carbon Calculator, is a simple tool by which you, a TERRIBLE POLLUTER, can plug in your average car mileage, electric bill, and Plane flights throughout the year, and get an immediate idea of how much CO2 you are emitting. And, in the same step, it automatically will tell you how many trees need to be planted in order for you to offset that CO2 you are emitting, even allowing you to immediately purchase those trees.

This one-stop-shop for pollutant awareness and resolution is a revolutionary idea and we hope to help everyone at CarbonNet grow and market the idea throughout the coming years.

So, why don’t you visit CarbonNet today, check out your Carbon Footprint, and purchase and plant some trees in order to help save the planet!

Southwest Florida Regional Technology PartnershipSOUTHWEST FLORIDA REGIONAL TECHNOLOGY PARTNERSHIP TO HOST LAUNCH EVENT ON MAY 22, 2008

FORT MYERS, FL., May 6, 2008 – The Southwest Florida Regional Technology Partnership will host a launch event on Thursday, May 22, 2008, to discuss the opportunities for building a roadmap to local technology in Southwest Florida. The meeting will be held at WCI Pelican Preserve, 9802 Pelican Preserve Blvd., in Fort Myers, Florida. Registration begins at 4 p.m. with the presentation starting at 4:30 p.m.

The Southwest Florida Regional Technology Partnership is one of a number of regional groups that help keep policy in line at the state level and keep their respective regions grounded by bringing influential members of the community together to share best practices. The group consists of technology leaders in the eight-county region, including Charlotte, Collier, Desoto, Glades, Hendry, Lee, Manatee and Sarasota counties.

According to Enterprise Florida, state colleges and universities performed more then $1.5 billion (2005) in sponsored research, working closely with business and industry to create cutting-edge technologies. Their work has generated more than $427.4 million in royalties to the state since the year 2000. It is hoped that a regional group could help to embrace this concept in Southwest Florida and further increase the statewide numbers.

“The pace of new technology, innovation-oriented business development in the United States has never been so rapid nor the competition so intense,” said Kevin Barnhill, Chairman of the Southwest Florida Regional Technology Partnership. “Southwest Florida has yet to name its prominent newcomer, but the region has all the qualities to compete at this level.”

Speakers at the Southwest Florida Regional Technology Partnership launch meeting will include Randy Berridge, President of the Florida High Tech Corridor Council; Tony DiBenedetto, President of Tribridge and Founder of the Tampa Bay Technology Forum; and Brian Mehaffey, Vice President of Engineering and CIO of Ave Maria University.

Event guests and sponsors include WCI Communities and AT&T. The meeting is open to the public. The cost is $15 per person in advance or $25 per person the day of the event. Registration is required either before the event by visiting online at www.SWFRTP.org/Launch or at the door.

Angry fist at SkypePart 3: As you know, I have been diligently trying to figure out why Skype has been failing in these departments:

1) Contacts appear ‘offline’ and are therefore incommunicable

2) Phone calls are not being redirected to cell phone

3) Instant messaging service is failing to send messages, if at all they send in bulk.

I was waiting for the second reply from Andre over at Skype support to provide me with a solution.

These are his words:

Pen and paperI held a meeting with Phil Borchman, CEO of Comm-Ex.com, a South West Florida commercial real estate news website, as well as author of the GulfShore Business magazine newsletter.

We discussed in light the various ways to market your website for FREE, which I may write a post about later if I get enough requests for it. ;)

But we also discussed the newsletter that he authors and how difficult it can be to be placed on that newsletter as a business with a press release.

So here are a few simple, but extraordinarily effective tips to get you to the top of the list:
